An inspiring group of the world`s best blind golfers are at this week`s 2014 ISPS HANDA Australian Blind Golf Open and World Blind Golf Championships at Nelson Bay Golf Club near Port Stephens which tees off today.

Over 50 players and their caddies from 14 countries are competing in the biennial championships which run until Friday 16 May.

The field for the two-day World Championships is limited to 54 players with Australia being guaranteed nine places.

The last blind golf championships were held in Canada at Novo Scotia’s Truro Golf Club in July 2013.

There are three categories, ranging from 100 per cent blindness to 10 per cent vision.

Caddies help golfers by instructing where to position their feet for the shot and explaining where to hit the ball.

Results of each day`s play will be available each night following that day`s play at: www.blindgolf.com.au

Results and updates will also be available on Facebook and Twitter by searching on Facebook for Blind Golf NSW and on Twitter @blindgolfnsw respectively.
