Australian Karrie Webb went on a birdie blitz in the second round of the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic to surge to within one of the leader American Jessica Korda.
The Queenslander posted a sensational round of nine-under-par 63 on the RTJ Golf Trail Magnolia Grove, Crosings Course in Mobile Alabama. She went out in three-under-par with birdies on the 3rd, 6th and 7th holes.
However, the back nine is where the seven time major champion got on a roll. She birdied the opening two holes on the back, then another on the 14th before she closed with three birdies to come home in 30.
Webb hit 12 out of 14 fairways, 16 out of 18 greens in regulation but she only needed 25 putts.
Webb is one back from Korda carded a second round of 65 to go with her opening round of 66 to sit atop of the leaderboard at 13 under par. Chella Choi is outright third at 11-under, with another three players at 10-under-par, including American Sydnee Michaels who signed for a 62.
Fellow Queenslanders Katherine Hull-Kirk and Sarah Jane Smith were the only other Australians to make the cut. Hull-Kirk carded a second consecutive round of 69 to sit at six-under-par and tied 21st position, while Smith (69) is at four-under-par and shares 35th position.
The cut was made at even par, unfortunately Frances Bondad (+2), Sarah Kemp (+6), Lindsey Wright (+6) and Julia Boland (+7) all missed the cut.
