• Thompson captures LPGA Malaysia title
Lexi Thompson celebrates her Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia win.

A final round of two-under-par 69 was enough for the talented American Lexi Thompson to capture her second LPGA title at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.

The Rolex Ranked World No.21 started the final round with a three shot lead over South Korean Illhee Lee. Thompson got off to a slow start with a bogey on the second and pars for the remainder of the opening nine holes. However three consecutive birdies to start her back nine set up the comfortable four shot victory.

Thompson fired rounds of 67, 63, 66 and 69 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club to finish at 19-under-par total and four clear of China’s Shanshan Feng.

Norway’s Suzann Pettersen (70) and Lee (73) finished at 12-under-par, with South Korean Amy Yang rounding out the top 5 at 10-under-par.

It wasn’t the best week for the two Australians competing, Katherine Hull-Kirk finished the best in a tie for 32nd at one-under-par after rounds of 74, 68, 69 and 72. Karrie Webb finished at two-over-par and in a share of 41st position after a closing round of even par 71.

The next tournament on the LPGA schedule is the LPGA KEB Hanabank Championship in South Korea. It starts on Friday and Katherine Hull-Kirk is only Australia in the limited field event.
