Marianne Skarpnord was declared the winner of the South African Women`s Open title after adverse weather reduced to the tournament from 54 to 19 holes on Sunday at the Southbroom Golf Club, KwaZulu-Natal.
Skarpnord, who lead the field with an opening-round three-under 69 on Friday took out the title with 7 players tied for 2nd.
Saturday’s second round was completely washed out. Sunday allowed for a few holes of play before first the rain caused a suspension, and then gale force winds hit the course.
At around 16:00, with the forecast for Monday showing equally strong winds, the Ladies European Tour and tournament promoters took the decision to declare the winner based on the first round scores alone.
New Zealander Cathryn Bristow finished tied 9th, Sarah King is the leading Aussie at tied 16th, Nikki Campbell is tied 27th and rounding up the Aussie contingent is Stacey Keating and Nikki Garrett both tied 44th.
